The School of Curriculum and Teaching houses the following programs: Elementary and Bilingual Education, Middle and Secondary Education, Art Education, Theatre Education, and Music Education.

The Elementary Education and Bilingual Education program prepares students for an exciting academic career that involves a rich and challenging array of learning experiences to prepare you for New Jersey certification K-5 (Kindergarten - Grade 5).

The Middle and Secondary Education program is designed to enable successful graduates to become certified as Teacher of Elementary K-5 and to qualify for the endorsement of Teacher of Elementary with Subject Matter Preparation (5-8) in a major subject area. Students in the Elementary-Middle program must choose an academic major in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, English (literature or writing options), History, Mathematics or Spanish.

The Art Education program at Kean University offers a distinctive, intensive and intellectually challenging experience leading to K-12 Art Teacher Certification in New Jersey.  A strong studio preparation is augmented by an academic study of the psycho-intellectual origins of artistic expression as they unfold within the growing individual.  The program is reading and writing intensive and seeks serious, academically strong students who demonstrate the capacity to translate conceptual thinking into an informed, vivified and highly structured pedagogical practice.

The Theatre Education program at Kean University offers the only undergraduate theatre teacher certification program in the state of New Jersey. Students graduating from this program pursue teaching positions with great success. Students may elect options in Early Childhood Education (P-3), Elementary Education (K-8), or Secondary Education (K-12).

The Music Education program offers a comprehensive music and liberal arts degree that prepares and certifies students to teach vocal and instrumental music grades K-12, including a two-year field work experience.
